MS Word Assignment

This Assignment is composed of two parts: You will create a resume and a brochure using Microsoft's Word Templates.

About templates

Every Microsoft Word document is based on a template. A template determines the basic structure for a document and contains document settings such as AutoText entries, fonts, key assignments, macros, menus, page layout, special formatting, and styles.

Global templates, including the Normal template, contain settings that are available to all documents. Document templates, such as the memo or fax templates in the Templates dialog box, contain settings that are available only to documents based on that template.

Create a résumé (25 pts), a cover letter (10  pts.)

  1. On the File menu, click New.
  2. In the New Document task pane, under New from template, click General Templates.
  3. Click the Other Documents tab.
  4. Double-click Résumé Wizard.

    If you do not see this wizard in the Templates dialog box, you might need to install it.

  5. Follow the steps in the wizard.
  6. Depending on the wizard that you selected, there will be a question at the end asking if you want to include a cover letter to your resume. If not, you will have to create one.

Select the proper resume type according to your qualifications. Complete all the section including a cover letter which will be asked by the paper clip (or another) Assistant.

This document can be used in the near future for you to find a job, so make sure to make it accurate and professional. You will be graded by completeness/correctness/creativity of your resume. 

Create a brochure (25 pts.)

  1. On the File menu, click New.
  2. In the New Document task pane, under New from template, click General Templates.
  3. Click the Publications tab.
  4. Double-click Brochure. (Notice that the brochure has two pages - Front/back). If you try an older version of Word, this option may not be available. Also, if you do have the latest version of Word at home, this option may not have been installed by default and you will need to add it.

    If you do not see this wizard in the Templates dialog box, you might need to install it. Use the computers in the lab, they have the templates installed.

  5. Follow the steps in the wizard.

This basic template includes information about how to modify its format. Print it before you make changes to it.

You will modify this template so that you can use it in your business, personal use, or church or you can pretend that you have a business.

You will be graded according to the changes done to this document. This includes changing fonts, colors, pictures. The format of the brochure can remain the same.

Your instructor will be available during lab time if you encounter problems.

  • Turn in a printed copy of each document including the cover letter, the resume and the brochure
