Section 12 Instructional Approach
This course is arranged chronologically and employs a weekly design. Each week, you should complete all assignments listed in that week's lesson module in D2L. These modules are available by clicking the Content link in the course navigation bar.
Modules will start at 12:01AM on Mondays unless otherwise stated in the Course Calendar. That said, I often make them available earlier for those of you who like to work ahead. All video notes, worksheets, WeBWorK assignments, discussion postings, and quizzes assigned that week will be due on Sundays at 11:59pm with the exception of the Module 0 introductory assignments. Exceptions such as exam weeks are stated in the Course Calendar. That said, please start early and work often on these tasks. They take time. Start your work on the first day of the module, not the last.
We cover approximately two sections per week. Each section consists of Introductory Videos, a Worksheet with Video Solutions, and a WeBWorK Practice Assignment. While watching the Introductory Videos, you are expected to take notes that will help you complete the practice assignments. Make sure to label your notes clearly with the corresponding section number. Then add your notes to your Binder. You will bring your Binder to each of our Exams or submit your notes to D2L or show them to me during my office hours. After watching the videos, you can read the corresponding text book sections. Doing a little bit each day is ideal.
After you watched the videos and read the texbook, you are ready to complete that section's Worksheet Assignment. Make sure to write out the problems as you see demonstrated in the solution videos. Make sure to label your Worksheet clearly with the corresponding section number. Then add it to your Binder. You will bring your Binder to each of our Exams or submit your notes to D2L or show them to me during my office hours. As you are learning and practicing, post a discussion post to our weekly Discussion board and learn from your classmates.
Once you feel comfortable with the material, practice your skills by completing the corresponding WeBWorK Assignment. If you click on "Show Me Another", you will often see an example to help you solve the question you are working on.
Once you are comfortable with that week's material, you get to check yourself by completing the Quiz. While completing the Quiz, show all your work, scan it, and submit it to the corresponding D2L assignment as one pdf file. You can repeat the Quiz and submit to D2L as often as you like before the deadline. You can also submit corrections as explained in each assignment. After you uploaded your original written work, go ahead and check your own work. If you would like to correct any problems, use new sheets of paper and write out the completely correct solution. In words, explain why you corrected your work and what you learned from it for each problem.
Use the weekly Q&A discussion thread to ask questions about any of the tasks/content for the week. You may also email me with any questions you have.
The WeBWorK Assignments within the modules will direct you to use WeBWorK, which is integrated with D2L. So you can just access everything directly from within D2L.
