Russian Instructors at PCC:
Kristine Shmakov- Full-time
Russian instructor and Russian Department Chair
Kristine Shmakov has been teaching Russian at PCC since 1993. She
earned a Bachelor’s degree in Russian from University of Oregon
Honors College and a Master’s degree in Russian Language and
Literature from the University of Washington, where she also
taught Russian. Kristine has studied in St. Petersburg, Russia and
travelled Russia extensively over the last 30 years. She has
written two Russian textbooks, Welcome: A Communicative Approach
to Beginning Russian, and Poidyom: A Communicative Approach to 2nd
year Russian, both of which are used in all PCC Russian language
courses. Kristine teaches first year Russian, second year Russian,
Russian Culture through Film, and Great Russian Writers at PCC.

Rebecca Mehr- Adjunct Russian
instructor
Rebecca Mehr earned a Bachelor’s degree in Comparative Literature
from Dartmouth College and a Doctoral degree in Russian Literature
from Columbia University. Rebecca has taught Russian language,
literature, and culture courses at Lewis and Clark College,
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukie and Columbia University. Rebecca
spent the first 10 years of her life in Moscow and studied in St.
Petersburg, Russia. She currently teaches first year Russian at
PCC.
