Summary
In this lesson, you learn how to check and create accessibility from D2L. The components including:
- Headings: Use properly formatted headings to structure the page
- List: Format a list as a list.
- Link: Write meaningful link text that indicates the link’s destination.
- Images: Provide alternative text descriptions (ALT text) for images and graphics.
- Tables: Use column headers and check reading order.
- Color: Use sufficient color contrast and don't use color alone to convey the meaning.
Assignments
- Assignment 1: Choose one web site that has at least 3 web pages and use WAVE Toolbar to run accessibility checker. Fix the elements that are not accessible based on the PCC Web Accessibility Guideline. Once you are done, submit a report in a Word document including your name, the website URL, the accessibility issues of individual guideline, and how you would fix them. Name the file as "Assignment 1_d2l_[your last name].doc, and email me at samornchat.gmail.com. (25 points)
- Assignment 2: Use the content from a 'd2l_assignment 2.doc' document to create accessible content on D2L. You will apply the accessibility guidelines to each web page element, including headings, lists, link, table, images (choose one image), and color. You can either use WYSIWYG feature on D2L or Adobe Dreamweaver to format the web pages. When complete, send me the D2L's URL via my email (25 points).
- Assignment 3: Apply to your own topic. Create at least 5 accessible Web pages using either WYSIWYG D2L or Adobe Dreamweaver. It can be your course content. When complete, send me the D2L's URL via my email (50 points)
