Homework: Week 3

Study goal for the week: Timed readings. Affixes review. Finish Short Story Study Guide 1.

Tuesday:

1.      Academic Encounters: Chapter 2. REVIEW reading 1 and PREVIEW/READ Reading 2 (Use some of these techniques: ask questions; read aloud; make an outline; summarize).Check all exercises on pages 28-37. Page 36 in particular: why are these situations examples of CONFLICTS?

2.     Review the story again and complete the Study Guide - turn it in next time. This might be a good chance to get together with classmates and work on it TOGETHER.

3. Quiz this week focuses on vocabulary. Go over your vocabulary cards and bring them to class next time! I want to take a look at them.
Use words from page 24 (assistance, consist, document, establishment, framework, fundamental, guarantee, maintain, reject, remove, revolutionary, specify) and from this list:

- allow
- permit
- prohibit
- forbid

Make 5-10 cards following the style I demonstrated in class. We will use them in class!

Thursday:
  1. Academic Encounters: Review Ch. 1 and Ch. 2 for next week's quiz. ESPECIALLY review pages 22, 23 and 24. Read and complete all exercises on pages 40-43. Page 37: Complete Ex. B and C on your own paper. We will have time to check answers in class before you turn in but I WILL COLLECT THESE for a grade.

  2. At-Home Quiz! Finish the quiz at home and turn it in first thing Tuesday!

  3. Work on Affixes 2. It will be due next Thursday.

  4. Vocabulary: Review the vocabulary words on page 46 and this list. Make vocabulary cards! Bring ten to class next Tuesday.You will need to know meanings, word families, and other word forms for each.

Study goal for next week: Quiz on fiction concepts (plot, setting, character). Review word families and definitions. Final review of Unit 1 in AE and begin Chapter 3.
