Guided Tour

Oregon contains the most diverse and unique geologic environment in North America. Travel east of the Cascade mountain range and you can see just how unique Oregon is. Eastern Oregon is filled with numerous geologic formations, from lava tubes and maars, to playa lakes and hot springs.

In late April, 1999, a small group of Portland Community College Geology and Biology students took part in a 4 day field trip to the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, southeast of Burns, Oregon.

Eastern Oregon Online tries to represent the geologic features of Eastern Oregon with pictures, text, and audio. Whether you are planning a vacation or researching specific locations, this project will hopefully give you, the visitor, a better understanding of the area and its process.
