ABILITIES
Abilities are special feats your character can learn to enhance combat performance.
Using an Ability
To use an ability, first determine which ability the character has. Ensure that the requirement of the ability is met before using it.
Once this is clear, announce the target of the ability and apply the effect of the ability. All abilities require at least one action to perform.
Some abilities might require more than actions. If that is the case, this would be noted in the effect of the ability.
This is an excerpt from an advanced Abilities Table to illustrate notation.
Attributes of abilities
Name - The name of the Ability
Uses - How often the ability can be used. X stand for unlimited uses.
Per - In what timeframe it can be used
Requirements - What is needed to use the ability
Effect - The effect of the ability
Limitations
No character can have two abilities actively used at the same time.
What this means is, that a character can use only one “active” ability at a time. There are no restrictions on passive abilities.
Every “active” ability requires at least one action to be used. Some abilities require more than that.
Abilities are be marked active or passive in the effect field.
Uses / per
“Uses / per” denotes how often the ability can be used per certain timeframe. The possible timeframes and their explanations are listed below.
Passive abilities are denoted with n/a in the uses / per field which means that there is no restriction since the ability is passive and always active.
Turn - a single characters actions
Round - a set of turns from initiative 1 to the last initiative including maintenance
Cycle - from the current characters turn to the beginning of that characters turn in the following round
Game - all rounds and parts of rounds until the kill die reaches zero
Requirements
Requirements represent what is needed for a character to use certain abilities. If the character cannot fulfill the requirement, the ability cannot be used.
However, that does not mean that the character loses the ability permanently. As soon as the requirement is fulfilled again, the ability can be used again.
Effect
The effect of the ability describes what the ability does when used. This field sometimes also denotes special notes or costs that have to be taken
into consideration when the ability is used.
