- Get ready for the first quiz, next class. There will be three parts: pronunciation, listening, and public speaking. The PRONUNCIATION part is about Lecture 1, the IPA, and being able to hear small differences between sounds. The LISTENING section is a short lecture: you will make notes. The PUBLIC SPEAKING section covers the ideas from pages 2, 3 and 10, and grammar from the Paul Lo interview. There will also be questions about the syllabusReview!

- Practice Speaking Homework 1. Sign up for a time to come read to me in my office here: youcanbookme.com. The LAST day to read Speaking 1 for a grade is Friday, Jan 24.
- Prepare for a second informal presentation. The topic: Tell your classmates about a person who was important in the history of your country. Your presentation should have three clear parts (Intro, Body, Conclusion) and two Main Points in the Body. Follow the directions on page 33!
- Research: Spend a few minutes, about ten, looking for information about the musical Hamilton. You have a handout with some questions to guide you. What information can you quickly find?
