Sarah Billings initially contacted Jefferson High School as an accomplished musician interested in fundraising for the school. Instead, Sarah began working on restoring the high school's music program, which had been cut several years earlier. PCC's Co-op program gave her the chance to earn credit as she volunteered to develop and later direct a choral music group at the school. She soon established an after school vocal performance group, Demo Sounds. Since March of 2009, the group has performed at many concerts and fundraisers including the Rose City Music Fest, the Oregon Great City School Convention, the 2009 Blind Veterans Convention and Jefferson's own Gospel Event 2010. Recently, Sarah and Demo Sounds were featured in the Portland Tribune and on local television news. Sarah has also volunteered with the "I Have A Dream" Foundation. (Video here..) Currently, Sarah is attending PSU studying Music Education. |
