InstallationBefore you can begin creating tests, you must first install the Score! components. Score! consists of two components: There is a client setup that installs two wizards into FrontPage 2000, and there is a server setup that installs a Microsoft Access database and other files that are required by the wizards. The wizards get installed on your local machine that is running FrontPage 2000, and the server files get installed on a machine that is running Internet Information Server 4.0. The same machine can be used for both components. After you have successfully installed the components, you are ready to begin creating tests. Creating a TestThe following steps can be taken to create a new test: |
Within the Score! Test Wizard will open and you will be presented with various options. Select "Create a new test" and then click Next. | You will then be presented with some basic questions about the test, such as a name, whether or not students can review their questions after they finish the test, whether or not students can retake a test more than once, the number of questions to display on a test, and whether or not the questions should be randomized. After entering the information, click Next. |
Lastly, you will asked to enter a name for the folder that gets created
in your Web for this test. Enter a name and click Finish. The
wizard will create a folder for your test within the Web and it will insert
your test data into the Microsoft Access database. If you choose to
not rerun the wizard when finished, the wizard will prompt you if it should
automatically launch the Score! Question Wizard.
Creating QuestionsThe following steps can be taken to create questions: |
Within FrontPage 2000, click File, New, Page. | The Score! Question Wizard will open and you will be presented with various options. Select "Create a new question" and then click Next. | The wizard will now ask you to choose which test you want to add a question to. If there is only one test it will be automatically selected for you. If you used the Score! Test Wizard to open the Score! Question Wizard, then the test that you created will be automatically selected for you as well. | The wizard will now ask you what type of question you want to add: true/false, or multiple choice. If you choose true/false, you will then get to choose which answer, the first or the second, will be the correct answer. If you choose multiple choice, you will get to choose the number of answers to display for this question, and which answer will be the correct answer. |
Lastly, you will get to enter a name for the page that will be created in
FrontPage 2000. Click Finish and the wizard will create a page template
for you and insert the question and answer data into the Microsoft Access
database.
AdministrationEach Web that you create to run tests on will have a set of administration pages. To open the administration pages, navigate your browser to http://yourweb/Admin/Default.asp. This page will let you create accounts for students, assign tests to students, and view test results. Once you create user accounts for your students, you should give that information to each student. Student ExperienceEach Web that you create to run tests on will have a Default.asp page that students will use as their portal page for taking tests. Students should be directed to http://yourweb/Default.asp. You can change the look of this page and add graphics, etc. Students will have to login using the username and password that you create for them. Once logged in, students will be able to view the tests that you assigned to them. If they have already taken a test, they will be able to see their grade. When you created the test, if you chose to allow students to retake a test, then students will be able to take the test an unlimited number of times. If students have taken a test and you chose to allow students to review the answers after the test was graded, then the students will be able to review their test to study the questions and answers that they were presented with and what they chose as the answer to each question. Important ConsiderationsYou should keep the following things in mind when administering your tests: |
Always use the wizards to modify tests and questions. Since the FrontPage folder and page names are stored in a database, if you change the names without using the wizards, your tests will not work. | If you want to run the Score! Test Wizard without creating a new web, simply click File, New, Web, choose the Score! Test Wizard and choose to "Add to current web". This will launch the wizard without creating a new Web. | If you want to run the Score! Question Wizard to modify a question, simply click File, New, Page, choose the Score! Question Wizard and click OK. There will be an option in the wizard to modify an existing question. | Users and Tests are specific to the Web that they were created on. So, if you use multiple Webs in FrontPage, you will have to create a user account for students on each Web. | As installed the Admin directory on each Web is not secured. You should use FrontPage 2000 security to secure the directory, so that only administrators will have access to those pages. |
