they weren’t interested;
then they tried Hewlitt Packard – they said “we don’t need you – you haven’t got through college yet”
Ø1981: IBM PC
Ø1982: Compaq is
founded to develop and market IBM-compatible
PCs
Ø1982: Sun
Microsystems introduces its first workstation
Ø1984: Apple
MacIntosh – first desktop with a GUI OS
Ø1985: Microsoft
introduces Windows – its first GUI OS for IBM-compatibles
Ø1998: Compaq buys
DEC – biggest takeover in computer history – becomes second largest computer firm behind IBM
Ø2002: Compaq merged with Hewlett Packard
