Diamond Craters Lava Flows
In this area, you are able to see the contact between the Diamond Crater Basalts and the Devine Canyon Ash-flow Tuff, which has a distinct reddish-brown coloring to it. Most of the Devine Canyon Ash-flow Tuff has been covered by the Diamond Crater Basatls, but there are a few places where you can see contact. Walking to the north from this location, you can easily see a place where the Diamond Crater Basalts run up against but do not breach a separate hill made by the Devine Canyon Ash-flow Tuff.
Directions:
From Burns, Oregon, travel south on HW205 for about 25 miles, past Malheur Lake. Turn right/east on Diamond Grain Camp Road and travel alongside McCoy Creek until you reach Lava Beds Road. Take Lava Beds Road north, and you will find a spot on the right side of the road to turn off.
