Melany Budiman:
Instructor and Technologist

Hello! My name is Melany Budiman, and I'll be your main instructor for this course.

I've taught this course for the past three terms. Each time I teach it, I learn something new.

I have a bachelor degree in Computer Information Systems from Southern Oregon University in 1999. I thought I found my dream job working as a web developer and programmer for a private company. Wanting to improve my skills and knowledge, I went back to take some classes in Multimedia at Portland Community College. There, I found my passion helping out 3 instructors with their online courses in 2001 as a Professor’s assistant.

Then, the Instructional Support department at PCC hired me in 2001 as an Instructional Technology Specialist where I help classroom and online instructors with instructional technology and software. This is where I truly found my dream job; doing what I love: teaching technology and working in a group of multi-talented people.

I went back to school to get my Master’s degree at Portland State University in 2009. I received two graduate certificates in Training and in Multimedia Training in spring’10. I enrolled in the PACE program where I graduated in June 2011 with M.S. in Educational Leadership and Policy. I was given the opportunity to teach this wonderful class since last year and sharing my skills and knowledge to PCC students. I owe most of my material from Greg Kerr, who was my wonderful mentor and whom I learn his wit, knowledge and vast experience.

Instructor Note:
This class will be a Classroom Web format, where you would need to spend additional hours outside of class to read the lectures and do the assignments. The responsibility for "getting" the material in this course is yours, though I have done and will continue to do my best to create online learning activities that will help you learn. Think of me as a guide: I will be here to guide you on your journey, but you must be prepared to do the walking. I cannot carry you.

The next thing you should do is to read the syllabus and course calendar very carefully. It contains my contact information, among other important information. The syllabus and course calendar are documents you should refer to often (you'll find a link to it from the content link on the blue navigation bar).

I cannot teach anybody anything. I can only make them think.
