A Guide to Choosing and Using Resident/Patient Lifts

Contents

This Web page was designed to inform consumers about how to choose the right lift for the different disabilities of each resident or patient. It is vital to have the right lifts not only for safety but also for the comfort of the residents or patients. By choosing the wrong lift you could potentially injure and put yourself in a possible liability situation. It is very important for people to learn to use the lifts correctly as to not cause further health debilitation.

For instance for paralysis patients, caregivers should use a Hoyer lift instead of the Home Elevator Lift because the Hoyer gives more patient support while transferring. The Home elevator Lift is more for independent living residents who are in better health condition.  The Arjo lift could be used for many different residents with different disabilities with the exception of spinal injuries or for example MS (Multiple sclerosis).

In order for care to be given correctly and lifts to be administrated properly, the caregivers must be trained and educated for each lift according to each disability. This web page will help with the decisions on which lifts to be administrated.
