Anna Berka:

Student

Registered Nurse

Mother

Anna Berka is currently enrolled at both Portland Community College and OHSU.  Her classes this term include Technical Writing 227 & Path Physiology.  Both classes are distance learning to accommodate her busy life.  Technical Writing is Anna’s last class at Portland Community College because she will have finished her prerequisites for the OHSU to BSN program.

Anna has a long history at Portland Community College.  She has spent nearly five years attending courses and has obtained her associates degree as well as completed PCC’s nursing program.  Her goal is to obtain her bachelors degree in nursing and sometime in the near future her Masters degree.

Currently, Anna works as a registered nurse on the telemetry floor of OHSU.  Her position includes duties such as tending for patients with arrhythmias, coronary artery disease or pre/post open heart surgery.  She provides complete nursing care for her patients which usually number five.

Anna works in an environment where there is a lot of documentation to complete daily.  Although she has taken both writing 121 & 122 she still feels that it is a challenge for her to convey her ideas in a clear, concise and logical manner.  Anna’s goal in taking technical writing this term is to learn how to write presentable memos, reports and proposals with confidence.  As of now Anna has moderate experience with MS Word and APA format but is hoping to learn how to use more programs in the near future.

Along with Anna’s already busy schedule, she is a mother of three school age children which require quite a bit of supervision.
