BA 205 Business Communication
Final Project Guidelines
Topic (Both Group and Individual)
Pick a business problem that requires significant use of business communication
techniques and tools to address. Options include any type of business report
or proposal. You may also choose to do a tutorial or user’s guide.
However, all projects must include the following:
-
Outside research (appropriately documented)
-
Multiple communication tools (more than one type of business document)
-
At least one chart, table or graph
-
A presentation summarizing, demonstrating or marketing
the project
For sample activities, review the “Activities” sections of Chapters
13 & 14. However, you will need to find a “real-life” application of
any problem you choose. You may use a project you are using at work or
in other classes with approval from your employer/instructors.
Paper Guidelines (Both Group and Individual)
Content and format will be determined by the topic choice. All papers must
comply with the following guidelines:
-
At least 3 full pages, excluding front and back matter. (Appropriate length
is determined by subject matter and audience needs/expectations.)
-
1 1/2 or double spaced.
-
Standard font size and style.
(Please submit your work either as hard copy, typed/word processed,
or on floppy disk in Word 95/6.0 format.)
Presentation Guidelines
Group Project: A panel presentation summarizing, demonstrating or
marketing the full project. Approximately 30 minutes, excluding introductions
and set up. All group members must speak for part of the presentation.
The presentation must utilize PowerPoint. Other presentation tools may
also be used. (Please submit a copy of the presentation to the instructor
on floppy or zip disk.)
Individual Project: A web page or pages summarizing, demonstrating
or marketing the full project. Length and format will depend on subject
matter. The web page must include hyperlinks, graphics and an e-mail link
to the author. When possible, the web page should include a downloadable
version of the full project paper. The web page may connect to outside
sources.
*You have two options for submitting the visual presentation: 1) Upload
your presentation to your own personal account. (See The
Quick and Easy Guide to Building Web Pages); 2) Send the web files
and related graphic files to me for uploading to our Projects page.
(I would like you to try uploading your website directly first. You
can always have me upload the files later if you get stuck. Also, you should submit a copy of the presentation to the instructor on floppy or zip disk, as a back-up.)
Other Options
If you have a special topic or format in mind that does not fit the above
criteria, talk to me about it. We may be able to come to an agreement.
Deadlines
Group Project: The final paper for the group project is due on the
day of the group presentation, unless other arrangements are made with
the instructor. Group presentations will be scheduled with the instructor.
Individual Project: The final paper and web presentation are
due at the beginning of the last day the class meets.
