ACTIVITY: Salary Negotiation
Negotiating a satisfactory salary is a skill which you must
develop. Your starting salary is likely to be the basis on which every
salary percentage increase is calculated throughout your career. A negotiated
fair market wage for your performance on the job is important for each
career move.
-
Salary negotiation is a business interaction, do not take
it personally.
-
Prepare by doing your research.
-
Know what the labor market is paying employees with your
skills and experience.
-
Know what employers in your industry are looking for in an
employee.
-
Sell yourself by talking about your worth in the local market
place, not the dollars you want.
-
Remember, a good manager will not pay more than they have
to.
