CG 280 Cooperative Education Seminar

Activity: Job Success Skills

Congratulations!  You’ve gone through the job search process and been hired for a position.  Now you face the next and most important challenge - creating a successful work experience.  Adapting to the workplace and advancing in your job don’t just happen through luck or good fortune.  There are specific skills you can practice and employ on the job that will help you to remain an employee in good standing. Being successful on the job means more than just knowing how to do the job. Remember that many people lose their job because of poor work habits and not because of poor job skills.

Assignment:

Visit the website http://www.deed.state.mn.us/cjs/jsuccess.htm and read suggestions from employers about what it takes to be successful on the job.  Take a skill from each of the categories - Employer Expectations, Communication, Personal and Getting Along with Others - and give an example of how you (or a co-worker you have observed on your job) have or have not been successful in utilizing the technique.  Each example should be a paragraph in length.

REMEMBER TO SUBMIT THE ASSIGNMENT VIA E-MAIL TO THE COURSE INSTRUCTOR.
