You should complete and submit assignments according to the schedule below.
If you enter the class late, contact your instructor to make special arrangments.
All assignments must be submitted by Wednesday of Finals Week*. See Submitting
Assignments below.

WEEK 2: Using any of the research tools described
in this course, find and write up a brief job description for a
current job opening that interests you. (Yes, it can be any job.) Include
job title, duties, qualifications, work schedule and pay.

WEEK 4: Write a rough draft of a resume.
Remember to include a "Career Objective".

WEEK 6: Print out and complete the on-line
City of Vancouver application.
You will find it on the WWW at http://www.ci.vancouver.wa.us/vanhrrs/jobfile/Employment_Application.doc

WEEK 8: Write a rough draft of a cover
letter. Pick an actual job opening to "apply" to, e.g., the job opening
for your first assignment. Remember to focus on skills and interests.

WEEK 10: Take the Interview
Quiz (Distance Learning students only.) Complete and submit a "practice"
interview. You will find this online at http://spot.pcc.edu/~gknox/quiz.htm.
* Students taking the Saturday class on campus must submit the job description,
cover letter, resume and application by the second Saturday meeting.
Additional Assignments for Letter Grade (Required
for Architecture, Drafting, Graphic Design, Interior Design, and Publishing Technology Students)
Students wishing to receive a letter grade must confirm this with the instructor
before Finals Week begins. The following assignments will be due Wednesday
of Finals Week. See Submitting Assignments below.

Write up a one page summary of an Informational
Interview. (Whom did you interview & where? What did you learn
about the company, the job, the career field? How has the interview affected
your plans?) You will find a full description of this exercise in the Informational
Interview reading

Develop and submit a Mini-Portfolio or make
arrangements to make a Portfolio Presentation to the instructor.
More information is given in the Portfolio
reading.
Submitting Assignments
You have four options for submitting homework to the instructor:

Attachments OK if Office 95 compatible.

FAX assignments to 503-977-8129.

Mail assignments to Sylvania Student Employment, Portland Community College,
P. O. Box 19000, Portland OR 97280.

If you are on-campus, you may drop off assignments in the Sylvania
Student Employment Office, CC 221. (Saturday class students may submit assignments
in class.)
Make sure your homework is marked "CG 209" and addressed to George Knox.
Remember that assignments must be received on or before the due date.
