Some people say that there is nothing to do in that sleepy college-town, Corvallis. But that's not true ...

What to Do in Corvallis

  1. Travel to the west side of the OSU campus any day at 4pm. The wind wafts in from the mountains past the cow barns. That'll clear your sinuses.
  2. Have lunch at Woodstocks Pizzaria and Laundrymat. If you spill something on your shirt - no problem! Just toss it in with your wash. (They also serve spirits. So separate whites from colors before you get there.)
  3. Go trapping in the hills for cougars and other critters. They caught two cougars last year just outside town. I once saw a wild turkey chase a women into and then out of her garage.
  4. Thirsty? Sure, Portland has microbeers, and the Willamette Valley has fine wine, but Corvallis has a genuine Ciderhouse making hard cider! Folks seem to like "The Bad Apple."
  5. Join the smallest protest in the world. There is usually one guy, occasionally two, picketing outside of town hall. The issue varies, but there's usually something that needs protesting.
  6. See if you can pick out the non-Oregonians on campus at OSU. They are usually the ones using an umbrella when it's raining or a sweater when its a clear, crisp 40 degrees outside. (We call that shorts weather around here.)
  7. Miss the "big city"? Drive 20 minutes east to Albany to see how city folks live. Try not to stare.
  8. Visit my mom. If you're lucky, she's made a pie. If you're unlucky, she's teaching piano lessons. You'll have to wait for pie. And listen to the kids practicing.
  9. If you're really bored, you can volunteer for "psych" experiments at the college. Sure, you may experience small doses of electricity, but you'll make a few bucks.
  10. Of course, you could just see EVERYTHING in Corvallis. Really. Takes about an hour by car. Slightly longer by bike.
