Course Description: Students earn credit for learning from practical experience at a worksite related to their major or career goal. Appropriate work experiences provide opportunities for new learning and skill development. The course is offered for variable credits and may be repeated. for up to 12 credits. Prerequisites: Instructor approval required.
Course Content and Outcomes: Cooperative Education provides an opportunity to learn and practice career-related skills in a supervised work setting. The student, instructor and site supervisor set individualized Learning Objectives for the experience. These objectives are monitored by the site supervisor and by the instructor through site visits, evaluations, and reviews of work. Each credit requires completion of 30 hours of activities, usually at the site.

Cooperative Education Handbook: This guide includes the policies and procedures for Co-op at PCC. It also provides guidance for identifying eligible worksites and writing learning objectives. Facsimile Co-op forms are included. All Co-op experiences fall under these guidelines. Text/Materials: There is no required text for this course. However, students must complete and submit the required Co-op forms. Other learning materials and/or work-related tools may be required by the work site to complete the experience.
Schedule: The student, instructor and work site supervisor will set a schedule of activities early in the term. This schedule may change with agreement by all parties.
Grading: Grading will be based on completion of hours and learning objectives, a satisfactory evaluation/review of the work experience by the instructor and work site supervisor, and submission of a self-reflection paper by the student. Grades will be given on a "Pass/No Pass" basis. Any student failing to satisfactorily complete these requirements will receive a "No Pass". An "Incomplete" will only be given for illness or verified emergency.
Conflicts should be brought to the instructor's attention as soon as possible in order to facilitate special arrangements. The course content and requirements may be adjusted in response to institutional, weather or class situations as needed, with adequate notice to students.
