Automotive Service Technology

Instructor: George Knox  E-mail: gknox@pcc.edu Phone: (503)977-4475 Office: Sylvania PCC, CC 221

Course Content and Outcomes: Cooperative Education provides an opportunity to learn and practice career-related skills in a supervised work setting.  The student, instructor and site supervisor set individualized Learning Objectives for the experience.  These objectives are monitored by the site supervisor and by the instructor through site visits, evaluations, and reviews of work.  The course is offered for variable credits and may be repeated.  Each credit requires completion of 40 hours of activities, usually at the site.

AM 280 focuses on skills and tools used in Automotive Service, which may include inspection, diagnosis, repair, preventive maintenance, etc.

Prerequisites: Instructor approval required.

Text/Materials: There is no required text for this course.  However, all auto students must complete the Student Coop Workbook and required Co-op forms. Other learning materials and/or work-related tools may be required by the work site to complete the experience.

Schedule: The student, instructor and work site supervisor will set a schedule of activities early in the term.  This schedule may change with agreement by all parties.

Grading: Grading will be based on completion of hours and learning objectives, and a satisfactory evaluation/review of the work experience by the instructor and work site supervisor. Grades will be given on a "Pass/No Pass" basis. Any student failing to satisfactorily complete these requirements will receive a "No Pass".  An "Incomplete" will only be given for illness or verified emergency. Conflicts should be brought to the instructor's attention as soon as possible.

Accommodation: Students needing accommodation should notify the instructor prior to placement into a Co-op experience.
