How to Interview for Information

 

·    Get to the right person.

·    When setting up the interview, ask for other background resources.

·    Prepare specific questions.

·    Give the interviewee an outline/examples of your questions.  Do NOT give a full list.

·    Use the interviewing method that works best for the interviewee (e.g., phone, e-mail, in-person, lunch, etc.)

·    Get permission to cite.

·    Get a business card or write down full contact information.

·    Follow-up.  (Send thank-you. Share results.)

·    Network.  (Return the favor.)
