Homework: Week 5

Study goal for the week: Poetry, rhythm, rhyme and stress

Tuesday:
Do AFTER Feb. 4
  • Practice your presentation! This is your #1 job. Check your email - if there is a problem with your Outline, I'll email you.
  • Review VOCABULARY - do pages 48-49 in the book.
  • Please LISTEN to the lecture: Revolutionary War, Chapter 4. Put notes in your textbook: pages 50-51
Thursday: Do AFTER Feb. 6
  1. LISTEN to the new song: "Right Hand Man" (here is a version with animation - that might help you understand what happens in the song)
  2. (Here is the slideshow from class today to review some vocabulary)
  3. Finish pages 61-66 (except for discussion); complete IPA 4 to turn in next time.
  4. Listen to the lecture explaining Speech Intros. Fill in your page with notes. We'll review all these acts next week.

Do you want extra practice with note-taking? Check out the lectures at TedEd. I like these topics. I suggest you LISTEN twice without watching. Then, WATCH the animation. Take a break, then TURN ON CAPTIONS AND READ. Finally, listen again with no visuals. This will help you understand common structure problems and improve your listening skills overall. I will probably play one of these videos in the next few weeks as a graded assignment! Preview it now to get ready!

  1. Tardigrades
  2. Imposter Syndrome
  3. Placebos
  4. Ida B. Wells
  5. Mammoths and Mastodons
  6. Killer Whale Matriarchs
  7. Poor Countries

Study goal for next week: Speeches!  Stress rules; Poetry and word endings. The /r/ and /l/ sounds.
