The library system includes 17 libraries throughout metropolitan Portland. All libraries are near bus lines so wherever you live, thereís a library near you. There are many in Southeast Portland including the large Midland library. The Central library in downtown Portland is a beautiful old building right next to the MAX line. Libraries are open every day so itís easy to find time to visit.

The Multnomah County Library system has over 2 million items in its collection and is one of the busiest in the United States. More than 85,000 people visit the library every week. They come to borrow books, music CDs, DVDs, and magazines. They come to read newspapers from all over the world, to learn to use computers, and to bring their children to special story times.
