Sylvania Cooperative Education & Job Placement



Heather Snider was hired as a part-time package handler at UPS while attending PCC Sylvania.  Her job is to sort packages by zip code before they are delivered. She is a transfer student and plans to earn a BS in Aeronautical Engineering.  Heather works the Day Shift at UPS's Swan Island location and attends PCC classes in the afternoon and evening.  She participates in the UPS Earn and Learn Program, which provides up to $23, 000 in school tuition & fee assistance. 
Andrew Marques began working for Lexus of Portland part-time while attending PCC's Automotive Technology program. He completed his Cooperative Education at the dealership and graduated this summer. Lexus has also sent Andrew through their corporate training program. He is now a full-time technician for Lexus of Portland.
Karen Aguiñaga, the first Machine Manufacturing Technology student to participate in the department's new Cooperative Education program, was hired full-time by Coorstek in April of 2001. Karen's training at CoorsTek included learning to operate Computer Numerical Control (CNC) core drill machines which run diamond tooling. She also learned to set up, operate, and change parts on large manual grinding machines; she then measured and inspected the finished parts.
