Oregon Independent Living Resources

 

Oregon Vocational Rehabilitation Division  (Statewide Offices)

VRD provides comprehensive employment-related services to eligible individuals with disabilities.  Services may include direct assistance or referral assistance for services and support related to independent living needs.

Oregon Commission for the Blind

The Commission provides independent living training, mobility training and orientation, communication training, adaptive equipment and assistive technology training, and other support and assistance needed to eligible clients.

Independent Living Resources  (Portland, OR)

ILR offers training in independent living skills, including mobility orientation and use of public transportation, personal skill development, self-advocacy, and communication skill development.  ILR also offers support groups and a personal attendant registry.

If you need information on housing, transportation, employment, adaptive equipment, accessibility modifications, and local and national resources, ILR may help!

Independent Abilities Center  (Grants Pass, Medford, and Cave Junction, OR)

The three Centers provide information, skills training, social and recreational programs, transportation, and equipment loans.

Developmental Disabilities Services  (Multnomah County, OR)

DDS provides direct and contracted services to eligible clients and their 
families.  Case managers are available to assist and direct clients to 
services, training, and living support needed.  Do apply for services early 
as the waiting list for services is long!

Office of Developmental Disabilities  (Oregon State Office)

This state office can direct you to the regional office in your local area.

Mental Health Services  (Multnomah County, OR)

The Behavioral Health Division offers alcohol and drug services, community 
mental health program services, and children's mental health services.  Case management and care coordination services are available to eligible clients.

The Connection Program for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community  (Salem, OR)

Services include counseling, advocacy, personal assistance, and vocational preparation services.

Self-Help for the Hard of Hearing of Oregon

SHHH provides support and information assistance to people with hearing 
loss.  Link to your nearest Oregon Chapter at this web site!  Chapters are 
located in Eugene, Portland, Salem, Albany, Lake Oswego, and Roseburg.

Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs  (Statewide Offices)

In addition to employment and training services, the VA Vocational Rehabilitation Services provides support and assistance related to independent living and other support as needed.

Oregon Employment Initiative

The Oregon Employment Initiative aims to assist people with disabilities who are thinking about going to work.  OEI specialists, located at county Disability Services Offices of the Aging and Disability Services Department, provide transition support and advising, referral assistance, benefit guidance, and other services based on need.

Aging and Disability Services  (Multnomah County, OR)

This agency offers a wide range of services, assistance, resources and information related to independent living.

The ARC of Multnomah County

The ARC provides life-management skills training and comprehensive case management services.

Washington State Division of Vocational Rehabilitation  (Statewide Offices)

Washington Department of Services for the Blind

DSB provides independent living training, travel and mobility training and orientation, communication training, adaptive equipment and assistive technology training, and other support and assistance as needed to eligible clients.

ILR offers an attendant registry, hearing loss services, housing referral, low vision services, peer support, skills instruction, travel training, vocational services, and other independent living support services.

Community Service Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing  (Seattle, WA)

CSBP provides a wide range of services to promote independent living for people with vision loss.

The Center located north of Seattle provides support and services to promote independent living.

skilled guide dogs for people who are blind.  The organization has two
comprehensive training facilities, located in Northern California and 
Oregon.

people who are blind.  The facility is located in New Jersey.
