opportunities for candidates with disabilities.  Currently thirty-five states,
the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and one Canadian province are
engaged in BLN activities.

Participating employers, in partnership with state Governor's Committee
representatives and other community services professionals, identify
specific hiring requirements (by completing a brief survey) so that referral
and placement services can be customized to meet those needs.
Participating employers actively recruit, hire and promote workers with
disabilities, attend business forums, conduct job seeking skill sessions
for candidates, serve as mentors to college students with disabilities,
and provide internship and work experience opportunities to students
with disabilities.

Benefits to employers who participate in BLN activities include:

Gaining access to a pool of qualified candidates with disabilities;

Obtaining pertinent disability information;

Sharing information with other employers;

Contributing to human resource training and employment issues;

Gaining access to an untapped market for goods and services.
