ENG197 FINAL TAKE-HOME ESSAY

1.       Our last film of the term is Wendy and Lucy.  Create ten really good study questions.  Then take one of the study questions and write a fully-developed response to it. (You don’t need to answer the others.)  Show that you have really developed into a talented study-question responder.  Be intelligent and thoughtful, of course, but also specific in your use of examples from the film.  (200 words)

2.       The list of this term's films was not designed with a particular theme in mind.  Ultimately the only thing these films have in common is the fact that they were made fairly recently, are available on DVD, reflect a certain level of quality, were made by women, and reveal different facets of your instructor's brain.

But if you look more closely, you might come up with certain patterns in the films that we've seen this term.  I'd like you to zero in on one pattern that links at least three of this term's films.  The pattern might be a theme, a method of storytelling, a type of conflict, a character type, a plot element, a setting, or something else.

Please discuss this pattern, using examples from the films.  Also, in your conclusion see if you can make any comments about whether or not this pattern tells us anything about contemporary women filmmakers.  (250 words)

3.       Of all the films that we’ve seen this term, which one was your favorite?  Why was it your favorite? What is it about the film that made it particularly interested for you? Point to a couple of scenes in the film that stick with you. Convince me that I should also consider this MY favorite film! (200 words)
