This vast site provides explanations, exercises, and links for Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing, Grammar, Vocabulary, Business English, Pronunciation, TOEFL/ TOEIC, and Idioms. There are also practice quizzes for students and handouts for teachers.

This site has its own dictionary of idioms, phrasal verbs and a grammar glossary. The 'Resources' button leads to more extensive information on the Web for both students and teachers. Try the "ESL Links Archive' on the Resources page.
ESL Resource Center
Actually a site for teachers, this reference includes activity suggestions for all skills, worksheets for vocabulary and grammar, role plays and games, and teaching techniques for pronunciation and error correction.

U.S.A. Learns
This online resource, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, is an online learning tool for beginning and intermediate language learners. Units are organized according to themes, there are regular quizzes, and students can record their progress.

It is a comprehensive, well-organized collection of links to other web sites on grammar, spelling, reading, vocabulary, pronunciation, debates, role plays and ice-breakers, as well as many links to teaching activities and ideas for lessons. It also has links to topical sites.
Language Centre
From Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. This site offers help with grammar, listening, pronunciation, reading, speaking, vocabulary, and writing.
English, Baby!
This ultra-cool, Portland-based site has slang, jokes, the latest fashion terms and buzzwords from T.V., movies, and music. Also information about holidays, chatrooms and pen pals.
Interesting Things for ESL Students
This site has quizzes on vocabulary, slang and proverbs. There are also word puzzles, word games, grammar activities, listening and pronunciation exercises, and instructions for computer-assisted writing. By Charles and Lawrence Kelly.
Dave Sperling's ESL Cafe
This extensive site has chat rooms, discussion forums, quizzes, a job center, student and teacher forums. Also activities with idioms, phrasal verbs, slang. Lots of quizzes, too.

English Daily
Thomas Schneider's site gives daily lessons on grammar, vocabulary, slang, idioms, tongue twisters, riddles, business English, abbreviations, and much more.
English Exercises Online
This site has vocabulary, grammar, spelling, and reading comprehension exercises. Also teacher handouts, a daily lesson, news headlines (mostly for Europe), chatroom, and many links to other Internet ESL sites. The Tower of English
A site with its own newspaper, mystery game, and debate hall. Also pen pals, online post cards, music, movies, activities, library, game room, projects, online ESL courses, tutors. Check out vocabulary pages, idioms, your horoscope, tongue twisters, etc.

Autonomous Language Learning Modules (ALMS)
The ALMS site gives you links to English language sites on the Web. The English via the Net link leads to pages on reference materials, links to good web sites, fun sites, and source materials. The Kaleidoscope page leads you to examine your own language learning needs. From the Helsinki University Language Centre, Finland.

BBC Learning English
The BBC's site has many features. One of these is where students may ask questions about English and get them answered. The categories range from confusing words and expressions to prepositions and phrases and include many puzzling grammar, spelling, and punctuation issues.

Shared Activities
The Quia site has a variety of enjoyable activities to help you improve your learning. The activities are for various subject areas, but the ones for English focus on grammar, spelling, and vocabulary.
Karin's ESL Partyland
The Student Pages for this site contain discussion forums, e-mail exchanges, lessons, chat rooms, links to other sites, learning pages, and activities with topics such as dating, movies, the Internet and music. There are also many quizzes.

Test Prep Review allows you to take all kinds of practice tests, including most of the tests that students need to take for college.
