Shawn Hillyer
Shawn Hillyer is originally from Omak, Washington, but found his way to
Oregon when he was the age of five. He has been living in the Portland
area for a mere four months managing a video rental store, before that he
lived in Vernonia. Since high school in '01, he has attended Portland
Community College off-and-on, but he has also attended Oregon State University
in the fall of '02.
Shawn is currently
about 40 credits away from obtaining his Oregon transfer degree from PCC.
After that he plans to go back to a 4 year university with his transfer
degree and complete a degree in business administration taking 2-3 years (
90 credits ). Currently, he sees himself using a business administration
degree to work in accounting or possibly international business. After
schooling he sees himself living somewhere in the northwest as an accountant,
or perhaps somewhere internationally working in some form of international
business.

uses technical writing in to complete employee evaluations, documentation
of work related incidents, general memos for co-workers, and school. For
this point in time, school is a greater channel for using technical writing,
but work is a near second. He sees himself using technical writing
throughout the rest of his life and foresees using it to write his future
resumes, memos e-mails, reports, As well as various other tasks like writing
a training manual for the new employees at his place of work.
Spurring from
using computers since he was seven, and using computers at work constantly,
Shawn is a very skilled typist and very proficient in ten-key. Also
after taking a few computer courses like business computer applications through
PCC, Shawn feels somewhat comfortable using a variety of different writing
tools and applications. He is familiar with MS office software, using
spreadsheets, powerpoint, and using basic text documents to help his father
manage his business. In addition, while writing he likes to use dictionaries,
thesaurus'. He also uses a third person perspective to improve his documents,
using a friend or family member to evaluate his writing to give it extra clarity
and focus.
