Shawn Hillyer




    Shawn Hillyer is originally from Omak, Washington, but found his way to Oregon when he was the age of five.  He has been living in the Portland area for a mere four months managing a video rental store, before that he lived in Vernonia.  Since high school in '01, he has attended Portland Community College off-and-on, but he has also attended Oregon State University in the fall of '02.  
    Shawn is currently about 40 credits away from obtaining his Oregon transfer degree from PCC.  After that he plans to go back to a 4 year university with his transfer degree and complete a degree in business administration taking 2-3 years ( 90 credits ).  Currently, he sees himself using a business administration degree to work in accounting or possibly international business.  After schooling he sees himself living somewhere in the northwest as an accountant, or perhaps somewhere internationally working in some form of international business.
    Currently, Shawn uses technical writing in to complete employee evaluations, documentation of work related incidents, general memos for co-workers, and school. For this point in time, school is a greater channel for using technical writing, but work is a near second.  He sees himself using technical writing throughout the rest of his life and foresees using it to write his future resumes, memos e-mails, reports, As well as various other tasks like writing a training manual for the new employees at his place of work.
    Spurring from using computers since he was seven, and using computers at work constantly, Shawn is a very skilled typist and very proficient in ten-key.  Also after taking a few computer courses like business computer applications through PCC, Shawn feels somewhat comfortable using a variety of different writing tools and applications.  He is familiar with MS office software, using spreadsheets, powerpoint, and using basic text documents to help his father manage his business.  In addition, while writing he likes to use dictionaries, thesaurus'. He also uses a third person perspective to improve his documents, using a friend or family member to evaluate his writing to give it extra clarity and focus.
