Stylistic Roadblocks

· Nominalization (Creating a noun out of a verb or adjective)

· Passive Voice (Not focusing on agent of action*)

· Wordiness (Excessive and unneeded language)

· Strings of Qualifiers (Long lists of adjectives/adverbs in single sentence/paragraph)

· Meaningless Qualifiers (Unneeded or vague qualifiers, for example: “so”)

· Lack of Transitions (Blocks of text that do not flow in logical order)

· Pacing Problems (Problems with paragraph or sentence length)

· Inconsistent/Inappropriate Tone (“Voice” changes or interrupts essay)

· Failure to Keep It Simple (Complexity hiding argument)
