Individual Assignment 4: Script Analysis

In-Class Option 1:

Read two scripts from other teams (not your own). Analyze the scripts by answering the following questions during an in-class discussion (you may want to make some notes, but these do not need to be turned in):

  1. Describe the structure of the script:
    • Where does Act 2 begin?
    • Is there a point where goals change in Act 2?
    • What is the beginning of Act 3?
  2. Identify the main characters and identify their goals -- goals may change, too.
  3. List the conflicts.
  4. Discuss the dialogue. Is it believable for the characters? Does it work?
  5. What is the theme?
  6. Which team had the best script of the two and why? (This is and should be purely subjective, but be tactful.)

Your participation in class will be required and tracked for you to receive the full points.

Out-of-Class Option 2:

Click here to read the Pen Teleplay. Note: you must have the free Adobe reader installed to view this .pdf file. Answer the following questions in essay form. The answers don't necessarily have to come in this order.

  1. Identify the main characters. Be able to list 5 of them and identify their goals.
  2. List the conflicts -- there are many.
  3. What is the theme of Pen?
  4. List at least three excerpts from the script that would work well in a trailer and briefly explain why they would work in a trailer.
  5. Who is the target audience for a television show like this one?

Send your instructor an email message with your trailer attached in Word format. It should include a subject like:
