MM 270
Writing for Multimedia - Assignment 1
Individual Assignment 1:
In-class Written Introduction or Introductory Essay
Option 1: In-class Written Introduction and Presentation
You should do one of the following:
On the first night of class, you will be asked to answer the following series of invasive questions:
- What is your name (and what do you prefer to be called)? -- unless it's your real name, please, no more names with "dawg" in them.
- Where are you in the Multimedia or Web program? In other words, beginning, middle, end? -- this is not a philosophical question.
- What are your key strengths in Multimedia/Web? -- there has to be a least one, and please list in descending order of magnitude if there are many.
- What is one of your most embarrassing communication moments? -- it can't be this one, either. Also, please keep it as clean as possible.
- What is one thing you've always wanted to share with a group of strangers, but never had the opportunity until now to do? -- feel free to advertise.
- Formulate a brief conclusion to this written assignment.
Write answers to these questions on a half sheet of paper that will be supplied to you (you will be given the paper, but not a pen). Be sure to answer questions 2 through 6 in complete sentences. Your grade will be partially based on your grammar.
You will then read your responses aloud to the class.
Lastly, be sure to turn in your work to receive points.
Option 2: Introductory Essay
If you missed this first class, then you have to do the following assignment:
Using Word (or a program that can save a document in a standard Microsoft
Word format) write a typical five-paragraph essay based on ONLY ONE of the
following three topics:
- A personal story about you and your past or present connection to multimedia.
- Your future plans after you complete the Multimedia program at PCC. (Feel
free to dream!)
- A description of one multimedia project you've completed of which you
are particularly proud.
The five-paragraph essay should include the following:
- An introductory paragraph, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion with
proper transitions between paragraphs.
- Margins of 1" top and bottom, 1.5" left and right.
- Times New Roman font for the body text.
- An appropriate and concise title.
- Your name, the date, and class name in the header.
- 400 words minimum, 500 words maximum.
- Clear and concise writing.
- Proper grammar, spelling and usage.
Send your instructor an email message
with the essay attached. It should include a subject like:
MM 270 Assignment 1 Your Name (where Your Name is your actual name -- you'd be surprised how many people don't get this!)
