Internet Assignments General Instructions

To complete these assignments

  1. Run Internet Explorer
  2. Go to a search engine, like Google, AltaVista, Yahoo, etc. by typing the address in the address field. For example, type www.google.com then press [Enter]
  3. Search for the topic listed in each assignment below and load an appropriate Web page by clicking on its link.
  4. Highlight the appropriate text on the Web page.
  5. Select copy from the Edit menu in Internet Explorer.
  6. Close or minimize Internet Explorer.
  7. Run Word and paste the text into Word.
  8. Save the Word document to your USB thumb (flash) drive. Be sure to give it an appropriate filename.
  9. Close or minimize Word.
  10. Repeat this process. You can paste the text from all your searches in the same Word document.

Go to one of the many music store Web pages. Use the local search engine to find an artist you like. Choose one of the albums of that artist. Locate Web pages that offer reservations for hotels in another country. Check three different hotels in that area and the total cost for each for three nights stay. Copy the price and location information for the one that has the best price.

Copying Text and Graphics from the Internet

You are writing a report about the Shakespeare play Romeo and Juliet. Find the actual text on the Internet then copy and paste into Word the section of the play that contains the line “A rose by any other name…” Finally, find a picture of a rose and insert it into Word.

To copy pictures from the Internet into Word using Internet Explorer:

A. Find the picture or graphic using an appropriate search engine.
B. Right-click on the picture or graphic.
C. Choose Save Picture As from the sub-menu.
D. Save the picture or graphic on your disk.
E. Import the picture or graphic into Word using Insert Picture from File.
