Speech of Introduction

Goal: To get to know your fellow students as well as to help you get up on your feet and talk.

Assignment:
1. Select an item that says something about you. It might be a CD or a photograph or an art project. It could be a box of chocolate chip cookies. It can be anything.
2. You are to create a 2-3 minute speech that introduces yourself to the class by talking about this item. Why did you select this item? What does it say about you? What is missing about you this doesn't say? You may talk about any aspect of your life-perhaps you want to talk about your family, your vacation, your interests, hobbies, how you spend your free time, your desire as a specific major, your work outside of class-anything that make you comfortable to discuss.

Your speech will go much better if you actually plan it out, practice it and come prepared. It is true that you know yourself, but you don't know your speech. Practice helps!! (Trust me on this!)
