The Demonstrative Speech:

The second presentation is a 4-6 minute speech that either demonstrates a process or gives the audience information while using visual aids. It can be something as simple as how to bake chocolate chip cookies or something more complicated as how to create clever holiday ornaments. It can be the life and times of Sylvia Plath or places to camp on Mt. Hood. In the past I have watched how to take a dent out of a fender, how to file taxes, how to hang wallpaper, how to manage time, how to study well, how to brush your teeth effectively...and so on. (see Lecture on how to select a speech topic)

Topics: Hand into me three possible topics. Include some basic information about the speech idea:

1. cats: how to prepare them for show
2. ornaments: easy to make holiday tree ornaments
3. how to tune a guitar

Do not simply write:
cats, ornaments, tuning the guitar

When I receive it, I will give you feedback on the ideas and which ones I think would be the best with which to proceed. There will be no duplicate speeches. If you change your mind before you give your presentation, you MUST inform me so that you will not give a speech with the same basic topic as someone else in the class

Remember, your responsibility in topic selection is to find something in which YOU are interested. If you are not interested, why should your audience be interested in it? (remember the #1 sin...) Once you have decided on the topic, then you will create it in a way that will draw the interest of your audience.
