The Sylvania Women's Resource Center provides a 10-minute classroom presentation
on Student Services. Classroom presentations are made by Student Advocates
from the WRC. Contact
us now to set up a presentation for your classroom. We know that for many
students their campus connection is limited solely to the classroom. This
can mean the student lacks the necessary information and resources to
successfully navigate the college system which sometimes results in students
dropping out when they encounter problems. We want to prevent that from
happening. The goals of the classroom presentation are to: |

Faculty searching for a guest speaker on a topic related to women or
gender may contact
the Sylvania Women's Resource Center for names and contact information
of individuals and/or organizations with expertise on your issue of interest. |

Some faculty will include a visit to the WRC as an optional assignment
in their syllabus. Others require students to participate in a campus
event sponsored by the WRC. As a "service learning" activity
for a class a student may wish to volunteer
their time with the WRC. |

Collaboration is the life's breath of the Sylvania Women's Resource Center. To insure that our services and programs are relevant and well utilized it is absolutely vital to work collaboratively with faculty and other PCC programs and departments. Contact us with your ideas for projects we can take part in with you. In an effort to support the work of local women scholars, activists,
artists, performers, and entrepreneurs and to extend the curriculum outside
the classroom the Sylvania Women's Resource Center sponsors scholarly
and popular events. We may be calling you to invite your class to participate
in an upcoming event. If it fits your syllabus we hope you'll join us. |

Mentoring and Building Relationships with Students The Sylvania Women's Resource Center promotes valuable interaction among faculty and students and provides many opportunities for them to work together outside of the classroom. These include such projects as: the annual Women's History Month celebration, the 2002 Conference on Poverty and the 2001 Masculinity Conference. These projects require the work of many hands; laboring side-by-side allows for organic mentoring relationships to develop between faculty and students. Are you interested in intentionally developing a mentor/protégé
relationship with a student? Student Advocates working in the Sylvania
Women's Resource Center are required to pair up with a Mentor of their
choice. Some students find it challenging to locate a mentor. If you would
like to mentor a Student Advocate please contact us for more information. |
