Our Mission

The Sylvania Women's Resource Center provides a central location for services that support the academic achievement of women, while working to increase access to education for women, improve the retention of women students at the college and encourage women's leadership development.

The WRC creates a supportive environment where women are encouraged to engage in dialogue, exchange viewpoints, and promote coordination and communication between diverse groups.

The WRC is a place where students can find assistance in identifying problems and resolution strategies and receive aid in accessing college and community resources.

The WRC is operated by Student Advocates each of who learn through her experience of working at the center how to empower herself and how to teach other women to empower themselves.

The WRC, through its programs and practices, is committed to increasing the campus awareness of oppression in all forms, particularly sexism, racism, heterosexism and classism. The program is designed to challenge these barriers which inhibit the advancement of women while it promotes a broader understanding of the diverse experiences of all women.

The WRC delivers a continuum of quality programming for all Portland Community College students, staff, faculty and the Sylvania community.

PCC is committed to creating an environment in which women can thrive. The college recognizes that achieving equity for women must be a goal for all members of the campus community. The WRC is a catalyst for realizing PCC's goal of an inclusive and equitable campus community.
