The Multnomah County Library System
The Best Deal in Town!

  classroom
Imagine if you could read books in many languages, study English, listen to music CDs, watch movies on video and DVD, read newspapers from you home country--for free! You can do all this and more at the Multnomah County Library.

The library system includes 17 libraries throughout metropolitan Portland. All libraries are near bus lines so wherever you live, there’s a library near you. If you live in NE Portland you can visit the Gregory Heights, Hollywood, or Albina libraries. North Portland and St. Johns each have a library. There are many in Southeast Portland including the large Midland library. The Central library in downtown Portland is a beautiful old building right next to the MAX line. Libraries are open every day so it’s easy to find time to visit.

The Multnomah County Library system has over 2 million items in its collection and is one of the busiest in the United States. More than 85,000 people visit the library every week. They come to borrow books, music CDs, DVDs, and magazines. They come to read newspapers from all over the world, to learn to use computers, and to bring their children to special story times.
