Do ...

  3. Highlight your strengths.
  4. Include necessary information (from job description).
  5. Use strong "action" words and phrases
  6. Consider a "Career Objective" heading.
  7. Use the format that fits you best.
  8. Have someone proofread your resume.
  9. Use a professional email when sending resume electronically.
  10. Contact the employer about specific resume requirements.
  11. Send a cover letter with your resume.
  12. Provide a scannable resume, if it is required.
  13. Use quality print and paper when printing a resume.
Do Not ...
  1. Waste space.
  2. Understate your abilities.
  3. Forget volunteer, cooperative education, military or other relevant experiences.
  4. Use vague, passive or negative language.
  5. Include irrelevant information, (i.e., courses or activities that do not relate to your job goal).
  6. List references.
  7. Describe previous pay, reasons for leaving a job, etc.
  8. Forget to check grammar and style.
  9. Send your resume without a cover letter.
