Using Netscape with AOL

The latest version of Netscape Navigator can be downloaded from Netscape's Web site: http://www.netscape.com
NOTE: AOL Members you can also type in the web address into the Keyword box and click on GO.

To verify which version of America Online you have:

  1. Verify that you are using America Online v.4.0 or higher for Windows 95.
    1. On the Welcome screen, click HELP on the Menu Bar and select ABOUT AMERICA ONLINE.
    2. You should be using AOL 4.0 for Windows 95 or later. Click OK to close the window.

If you do not have V4.0 or higher, please download the latest version of America Online.  If you have any questions on how to do so, please contact America Online.  

Please Note: We do recommend that you use the most current version of America Online when taking a Online Distance Class at PCC.

After you have downloaded and installed the Netscape Navigator* software, use the following steps to launch and use it.

  1. Enter your SCREEN NAME and PASSWORD.
  2. Click SIGN ON.
  3. Once online, Minimize your AOL window.
  4. Launch NETSCAPE by double clicking the icon on your Windows desktop, or from the START button on the Windows 95 Taskbar.
NOTE: You must sign on to AOL first, to provide a connection for Netscape.

AOL Members: For more information regarding the use of Internet software with AOL, please see the help area located at Keyword: WINSOCK.  The Netscape browser, 16-bit version or 32-bit, can be used while connected to AOL v.4.0 or higher for Windows 95.

*We do not recommend using Netscape 6.0 with WebCT.  This version has not been fully tested with WebCT

Please use the following steps for keywords:

  1. Press the CTRL + K keys to bring up the Keyword box.
  2. Enter your keyword in the Enter word(s): box.
  3. Click on the GO button, or click the SEARCH button to search all available keywords.

Note: You can also type Internet addresses, such as http://www.aol.com in the keyword box to go directly to that Web site.
A hyperlink is underlined text that appears in blue.
